For those who don’t know, Kiva is a made-of-awesome microfinance organization that gives loans to entrepeneurs in developing countries (and a few special programs in the US). All the money you loan (except the free loan, which goes back to the anonymous donor who is sponsoring it) comes back to you and then you can choose to withdraw it or loan it out again and again.

In the three hours since I posted the video above, the nerdfighter kiva group has passed both the atheists and the Christians, by the way. We’ve now loaned more than $300,000, and nearly $90,000 in the month of March alone, which I will remind you is not yet half over.
This is crazy and wonderful. (Like, I am getting emails from kiva and they are also like, “This is so crazy and wonderful what is even happening?”)
If you’re not yet a kiva member, make your first loan for free. If you are a kiva member, and you can scrape together $25 to loan to an entrepreneur in the developing world with a ~99% chance of getting paid back*, well, now’s as good a time as any.
Kiva.org is only beginning to understand the power that is Nerdfighteria! (Actually, judging from the very nice comments from Paul and other Kiva staff members, and from the song by Paige Finch that they posted to their blog page, they already were aware. But still. It was a good sound bite.

Remember the scavenger hunt we made for John and Hank during the Tour de Nerdfighting? Well, even though they never actually finished the hunt, the prize at the end is long overdue!
